The ceremony for the 2025 Olimpia Awards, which recognize the best athletes of the year, has confirmed its date and venue: Monday, December 22, at the Usina del Arte in the La Boca neighborhood. According to the Argentine News Agency, the organization will be handled by the company Torneos and will feature a new category aimed at rewarding esports. Additionally, a public vote will be held to award nominated athletes who do not win the Olimpia de Plata, with the winner receiving an annual scholarship. The Olimpia de Oro and de Plata awards will be presented. For its 72nd edition, the categories for the 2025 Olimpia Awards have been revealed, along with a series of new features. Silver statuettes will be awarded in 43 sports, including chess, athletics, motorsport, basketball, billiards, bowls, boxing, canoeing, cestoball, cycling, winter sports, equestrian, esports, water skiing, fencing, football, futsal, gymnastics, golf, handball, field hockey, roller hockey, judo, karate, wrestling, motorcycling, swimming, paddle, Paralympics, roller skating, pato, pelota, polo, rowing, rugby, softball, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, shooting, turf, volleyball, and yachting. Furthermore, in partnership with the innovative Torneos organization, the Olimpia Awards have innovated by integrating the esports category with the goal of attracting a younger audience. "Esports is one of the disciplines with the most growth in recent years, and we believe it is time to integrate it into the awards," declared the awards committee, which also announced that the winner of this category will be chosen by the public in an effort to "actively involve the fans of this discipline in the Olimpia Awards celebration." It was also announced that the "Inspiration Award" will be created, which will also be decided by popular vote, and will grant an annual scholarship to the chosen nominee among those who do not win the Olimpia de Plata. Beyond these two new categories, the rest of the winners will be selected, as usual, by the Circle of Sports Journalists, a civil entity founded in 1941 that has organized the awards since 1954. In last year's ceremony, the top award, the Olimpia de Oro, was shared by Formula 1 driver Franco Colapinto and the world champion and two-time America's Cup goalkeeper Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez, as well as other notable Plata winners such as José "Maligno" Torres, Argentina's first Olympic gold medalist in BMX cycling, and Faustino Oro, a 12-year-old chess prodigy impressing the world.
